North Head

This is my holiday recount called North Head.

WALT use different sentence starters
I know can do this when:
  • My sentences start with different words
  • Capital letters to start sentences and for proper nouns
  • Some short, sharp sentences

KEY WORDS: North Head, Auckland, Picnic.

We have just arrived at the North Head car park for a picnic dinner. North head is an old army base by the beach in Auckland. Me and my family slowly trudged through the thick mud with are picnic gear. Finally we reach our picnic spot. Its an old cannon shelter facing right out to sea. My brother, my baby cousin and I go and play with a ball while my uncle and auntie get dinner ready. When I wasn’t watching my brother gave the ball a big kick and knocks over the water jug. The jug cracks and starts to leak. Without thinking I run over to the jug and put my hand on the crack. What I didn’t know was that the jug was full of HOT WATER! “OUCH!” I said as I quickly put the jug down and shook my hand. My hand wasn’t burnt but it was still really hot.

For dinner we had bacon, sauseges and hamburgers. It was sort of an easy tea considering we only had a small gas cooker. We watched the boats from the Auckland harbour go past and played with the ball some more while we were waiting for the adults to finish.

After dinner we my uncle took us kids to see some of the other cannon shelter. Meanwhile my mum and auntie packed up the picnic. Then trudged back up the muddy hill. We explored a couple of underground tunnels were the soldiers stored their guns and cannons. The tunnels echoed with every foot step.Me and my brother walked through the tunnel making disstant cannon noises with are feet. We explored the tunnels some more before returning to the car. Then we drove home for dessert.

Are Aliens real? answer: NO!

I'm now going to persuade you that aliens are fake.

Why are aliens real? Do you have proof? Has anyone seen an actual alien? Have you ever thought that crop circles are just farmers playing with their lawn mowers? Well I’m to tell you aliens are not real!

UFO? or Cloud?
Ever since the first alien movie came out everyone has said they spotted aliens in flying saucers and stuff like that. So what if you saw a disk shape?  Doesn't mean aliens are real. How do you know they were made by aliens? They could be clouds! I’m just trying to make a point here if aliens were real why haven't we found any yet the only evidence is flying saucers aka UFO’s but as I said there is no such thing.

Alien abduction? Yeah right!
Ok so you say you were abducted by aliens. I would totally believe you... If it was true. Even if aliens were real I’m sure they have better things to do then poking at human brains or abducting cows. Seriously you know that I’m right about this one. Come on, how could you still believe in all that alien talk about ET and Martians! They DON’T EXIST.

So you're saw an alien shaped rock.... And what?
You were going for a late night stroll. Saw a rubbish bin. Thought it was an alien. Theeen freaked and told everyone you saw Chewbacca in the alley way. Maybe next time you should check if it's actually an alien not just a bin. I mean really how many times has some seen a blanket and thought it was monster. And none of us believe in monsters. Just face it aliens are just made up creatures from books and movies!

Now do you believe me
Well I’m sure we all believe aliens exist (NOT!). You should all now know that aliens are FAKE! If you still believe that all that alien mumbo jumbo is real then you're still wrong. Aliens are like Bigfoot and fairies and as I said before monsters! Fake, fake and FAKE! So, now do you believe in aliens?? Hope not.

Flax Rock

On Friday we went to Flax Rock. Flax rock is a rock climbing place in Flaxmere. We had lots of fun! Here is my reflection of that day.

FlaX rock Reflection

Something I was pleased with was how many times I got to the top because the first time I tried rock climbing I wasn’t very good.
I really enjoyed was get to climb lots of different rock walls because I really like rock climbing.

Something I found hard was finding the right rock at the right time because sometimes I had to look down to find a place for my foot.
Something that made me think was how I was getting to the top.

Broken

WALT use different sentence starters and lengths.

To do this, I will try to:
  • Start sentences with different words
  • Start sentences with capital letters
  • Use other punctuation (check the ladder)
  • Show my feelings
  • Use my senses to describe
  • Include strong verbs

BROKEN

I dashed through the fresh morning air with my friends by my side up the steep rocky mountain. My phone was in my pocket but I didn’t care. I keep running through the bush. “Come on guys the checkpoints just around the corner” I yell as turn the corner. It was the day of the great bush run, we had to run  through the rough terrain of cliff peak, swim through the ice cold water the water fall and do a 2 km bike back down to the finish line. And I had accidentally packed my phone! It was too late to turn back not now. We were almost at the waterfall.

I took off my bag off and gave it to one of the bag carriers. Leaving my phone with it. I swam fast through the cool stream. Through my goggles I could see my friends still beside me.

I jumped out of the water and grabbed my bag. I ran to the bike stands. I found my helmet and jumped on my bike. I hit a stone and fell back onto my bag. “OH NO!” I thought “MY PHONE!”.
I quickly hopped back on my bike and started off the bike again. I soon caught up to my friend and continued the race. I was almost at the end My chances of winning were high. I was almost there yes I won. But what about my phone. I parked my bike and opened my bag. I took out my phone it was ok. “Phew” I said relieved.  At that moment dad came over and gave me a big pat on the back. My phone slid out my hand and crashed to the ground. It was BROKEN.

The taste taker

This is my poem called the taste taker it is my version of the sound collector.

WALT write entertaining poems
We will know we can do this when:
  • meaning - focus on one sense
  • four lines per verse
  • rhyme (2nd & 4th line)
  • beginning and ending

The Taste Taker

A man called this evening
Dressed all in black and green
Put every taste into a sack
He really was quite mean.

The sweetness of the chocolate
The salt taste of the toast
The tang of the barbeque crackers
The delicious chicken roast.

The sourness of the lemon
The tastiness of the cake
When you chop the oranges
The yummy juice it makes.

The hoki poki in the ice cream
The yucky orange pill’s
The lime from the ice blocks
As they start to chill.

The yummy tub of honey
in the cupboard still
When you spill the apple juice
The sweetness of the spill.

The spice from my taco
The taste of lollies rolling in my mouth
The delicious corn beef
Since then everythings gone south.

A man called this evening
He didn’t leave a trace.
Left us nothing yummy
food will never have a taste.

Elijah Casson.

Coke Bottle

coke prompt.JPGWriting Purpose: To Entertain

WALT use our senses to describe

  • (see, hear, smell, feel, taste)
  • different sentence starters
  • some short sentences

Class Word Bank:
spray, like a mustache, pop! x-factor, explosion, imagine if you had to clean that up, enjoyment, fireworks, nostrils, Coke, brown sticky foam, whiskers, friends, blow, soaked, boom! Coke bomb, power, fizz, amaze, cool-down, pumped up, fizzy, bottle rocket, ouch!

Pop! This fizz shoots up my nose. I could hear my friends laughing in behind me. They had pranked me again. The brown liquid covered my face leaving behind a sticky mess. Firework of coke slowly died. I couldn't believe it, we were supposed to be even! I mean the cream pie incident was last month, they had already filled my pillow case with yogurt. The cream pie thing wasn't even that bad. I knew I had to get them back for what they had done. But how? How could I get them back for this? I get up and run to my room. My friends didn't follow me but they keep laughing. I grab my prank kit and start scanning the contents. Bucket of water on the door? What about bucket of COKE on the door? That's what I would do I would fill a bucket with coke to get them back. I run down to the shop smiling through the stickiness of the fizz. I brought two 2L coke bottles and poured them into a bucket.

That night I put the bucket of coke on the door. My friends were coming down to my house with a prank in a sec kit. I told them I wanted to apologize for the prank. I ran to to the front door and waited the door opened. SPLASH! My friends were soaked to the bone in sticky coke.

3200 year old tree project

Recount

This is my recount of how they captured the image of the sequoia tree. They had to walk deep into the sequoia national park were the “president” stands. The lifted the huge camera into the air with pulleys and ropes. People had to climb up the tree to measure how far out the camera would go. They had to take hundreds of photos so the camera went side to side and up and down. They had to put all the photos together to make one huge photo of the tree!

Summary

Wow this amazing tree called the “president” he is a Giant sequoias. He has been estimated to be 3200 years old.  He measures 247 ft in length, 45,000 cubic feet on volume, 27 ft high and wide and has over 2 billion needles. He also adds 1 cubic meter of wood a year! Make him one of the fastest growing trees in the world. A Giant sequoias can only be found on the western slope of the Sierra Nevadas in California. That’s 5000-8000 ft above sea level! Until now the tree had never had its photo taken. And they had to take lots of different photos and put them together to make this.
